Between Goodbyes

Dir. Jota Mun | 2024 | USA/South Korea | 96 mins
Between Goodbyes is a poignant documentary following Mieke, a queer Korean adoptee raised in the Netherlands, as she reunites with her birth mother in Seoul six years after their first emotional meeting. Joined by her wife to celebrate their marriage, Mieke confronts the grief, silence, and cultural distance that shaped her past.
Set against the backdrop of South Korea’s complex history of international adoption, the film offers a deeply personal lens on identity, family, and belonging. Directed by fellow adoptee Jota Mun and executive produced by Alex Gibney, Between Goodbyes is a powerful meditation on love, loss, and the search for home.
